Christmas Day is a yearly holiday that nearly everyone in the UK celebrate's on December 25th. Celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and the beginning of the season of chirstmastide which last a total of twelve days, nobody can be sure of the exact date jesus christ was born but it has been chosen to correspond with either the day exactly nine months after some early Christians believed Jesus had been conceived, the date of the winter solstice on the ancient Roman calendar,or one of various ancient winter festivals.

Christmas is mostly celebrated by the Christian faith, but it is also celebrated widely by non christians as a cultural festival. Modern customs of christmas are giving christmas gifts, sending cards, putting up decorations, going to church, mistletoe, nativity scenes and father christmas. There are many different traditions of what christmas is to other people for example In many Catholic countries, the people hold religious processions or parades.

Christmas the word is originated a a compund meaning "christ's Mass". The phrase was first recorded in 1038. "Cristes" is from Greek Christos and "mæsse" is from Latin missa (the holy mass). In Greek, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ, and it, or the similar Roman letter X, has been used as an abbreviation for Christ since the mid-16th century.
